Cultural Fusion

hi all and welcome to Saturday.
It is ATC share day.
Week 12 prompt is Cultural Fusion: blend elements from different cultures in your artwork.

I knew exactly where I wanted to start. I have had this piece of paper in my stash for ages. I am pretty sure the amazing Gayle Price gave it to me.
I took a little strip off the side and stuck it down with gel medium. Added another little strip of paper to add some more something to it.
Obviously, the piece of paper with the strip ripped off of it.
after that I stuck down one of the Dina Wakely Collage Faces over the top.
Love how you can see the background through it.
I then added a piece of Purple (Yep Purple... lucky it was left over from the January Junque Journal kit)
layered with a couple of stamps from one of the 49 & Market ticket essentials rolls.
I then stitched everything together around 3 of the edges and I really wanted to have some longer pieces at the bottom.
I then added a piece of resin book paper and a little saying stapled on top.
Then added a little drizzle of Liquitex Ink.
and Yep..... Finished. Simple and easy.
Not a Race

I love stitching and leaving the strings at the ends. Love the texture.

Until next week

Saddest Blog Post ever

 happy Saturday....

why is it sad... because I only have my ATC for this week to share....

this week's prompt: Sci-fi Fantasies - design an ATC inspired by Science Fiction

'Captured'

how did it happen...
well, I am NOT into sci-fi at all.
What does sci-fi mean:

Science fiction, popularly shortened as sci-fi, is a genre of fiction that creatively depicts real or imaginary science and technology as part of its plot, setting, or theme.

The fiction part of science fiction means, of course, that it’s a fictional story—not a real-life account.

The word science refers to the fact that the story in some way involves science or technology that—no matter how advanced—is depicted as being based on real scientific principles, as opposed to involving magic or the supernatural. Science fiction isn’t always ultrafuturistic. Sometimes, it depicts technology just beyond or slightly different than our own.

So, there's the definition.
so, I went looking for inspiration from the stash.
I found 2 magazine images - one that reminded me of a heap of metal coils and the other fantasy or futuristic.
So, I did an image transfer of this metal type image first up...
Worked well....
then I decided to image transfer a section of this picture over the top of the metal.

That did NOT work...
Options, throw it out and start again or rethink...
I re-thought...
what do I think of when I hear Sci-fi - Movies
Star Wars etc (yep, never watched any of them. I think I tried once and went NOPE).
Because the prompt is just that a prompt. I went with movie theme.
I found these really old Tim Holtz tiny film strips.
Covered the whole background in layers of the strips. I used some Helmar 450 glue to they were stuck down well, and you could still see the images below.
I like how you have to look to see the metal image.

What else is sci-fi = computers. This washi tape reminds me of computers and the types of imagery that you see when watching movies about conspiracies and out there computer themes..
My brain said - yep that will work.
and then another bigger film frame to highlight the washi.

and to continue with the theme a movie type reference with the title: Captured.
oh and Sewing, because that is a pre-requisite that I set myself.

The end result and I love it. Quite simple but quite fun at the same time.
and Yes the contrast between it and last weeks prompt in the ATC album....
FUN...

Sunday 10 March 2024

Hello everyone, Georgia here with another layout using a HS background in which I have covered it with heaps of 49 and Market tickets.  Creating a woven ticket as my foundation along with some fabric, die cuts, washi and some rub ons.  All products including Lucky Findings foundations were used and can all be purchased from the Scrapping Clearly website.

March Palette Play and this weeks ATC

 hi all and happy Saturday.

This week I am going to start with sharing my process for creating a scrapbook page based on the March Palette Play - Whimsical Watercolour.

I must admit the printed version of this palette that I was creating from was quite a bit more wishhy washhy. but it still fits.
What stuck out in the palette - the circles and the watercolour effect.
So, I started with a background piece from the Heidi Swapp Emerson Lane collection and swiped different sized circles with some Liquitex Modelling paste (using a circle stencil). I initially started towards the right side but then increased it and went all out....
While I was waiting for the paste to dry, I started on the image bundle.
I stitched on a Teresa Collins Photo Overlay directly onto the photo
(oh I know the horror.. fancy stitching directly onto an image). next i added some HS memory files, vintage instaframes, a 'Spectacular' rub on, and some puffy alpha stickers (oh as per usual, supplies list at the end).
did you notice that when I trimmed the pattern paper I deliberately left the strip at the bottom for something extra.
Whoops forgot the process photo.. so, moving along.
once the modelling paste was dry, I added some NeoColour and Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks to the circles making each one slighly different and added some water to create that watercolour look.
the next step was to add some stiching... yep if you haven't worked it out yet I love stitching onto any piece I create.
after adding the stitching the background just .. wasn't doing it for me.
so, i pulled out some Rubons from 49 & Market - words and spectrum gardenia extras.
the circle shapes of the rubons will help to form the base of the photo stack.
you can see I left the middle part empty - why waste some rubons etc when it was just going to be covered up anyway.
finally, I added some layers of stuff - ribbon, washi, frames, ephemera bits, acetate leaves, transparent wings, pianola paper. And added some ink where needed to the ephemera - Distress Oxides of course.
and that is about it... Lots of items added for me = lots of close ups...
"Spectacular"

the whole image:

Thoughts????

and of course, what is a Saturday without my take on this weeks ATC prompt:
Vintage Vibes: create using a vintage or retro feel.

I couldn't decide --- Vintage ... or... Retro..
so, I mixed them!
"It Can Be Filmed"
This one was so so simple. I stuck down a bit of a vintage Butterick pattern.
Then imaged transferred a Retro feel magazine image and once dried - stitched around the edge of the ATC (keeping up with my rules of engagement that I set myself at the start of the year). and then added the title.

and here this weeks ATC in the ATC album/book.

must be getting close to having to create a new album....
